I am using a fully 3D accelerated desktop, easy to activate and deactivate with a simple preferences applet, thanks to AIGLX, Compiz and Fedora Core 6, that, in my opinion, is better integrated than the Xgl X server (using OpenGL APIs) running over the traditional X server solution.
