The IBM plan with OS/2 is known from a long time ago, kill it slowly and give time to its customers to migrate. Well the final steps are being taken.
I was an OS/2 user at home and at work we were a big OS/2 shop, but a few years ago we decided to drop any OS/2 involvement when its future was clear. It was a painful decission because I loved OS/2, the beauty of its desktop metaphor: the "Workplace Shell (WPS)", a fully object oriented environment with no comparison with any existing solution, It must be used to understand it. The first OS to include voice recognition with VoiceType (today in the 21st century there is no OS with voice recognition so integrated as was OS/2) and a Java VM.
I still remember the days when I removed each OS/2 Warp Server from the office and later from our customer, and replaced them with Linux. My loyalty to OS/2 was comparable to the one of the Mac users.
Bye OS/2, you served you role well, It was not your fault neither from your developers that in the long term you was not able to survive. Thanks for given me the chance to really learn a lot and not to be another one of the Windows generation.
