Blog with good looking style and nice nature photos

robert | 26 July, 2004 21:38

I recommend you Linuxart - Garrett's Website, this blog is from the author of the Red Hat Bluecurve? artwork. If you like Bluecurve? like me but are using a Windows desktop, you can install a version adapted to work on Windows from http://www.bluecurve.tk/

I like a lot the nature photos that he takes, each time I visit it I found a new one to place on my desktop.

Mozilla adds support for document.all

robert | 23 July, 2004 22:47

Internet Explorer add a lot of programming features that are not part of any standard, one of them is the document.all property. The Mozilla developers added support for it as a way to make buggy websites coded for IE to work on Mozilla and Mozilla based browsers, see bug #248549.

My only hope is that the developers of those IE only sites learn that using standard DOM will give them more portable, easy to read and modify code.

When writing this text, I was remembering one phrase that I learned from a De La Salle Brother: "every action or thing must be done the correct way or not be done at all", then looking for the website of the Venezuelan chapter of the "De La Salle" institution in order to link to it from this blog entry, I ironically arrived to a no standard site. Maybe it is time to contact my old school and talk to them about this problem, and at the same time remember good old times.

Linux on the iSeries

robert | 20 July, 2004 19:51

A few weeks ago, I installed a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 AS for the iSeries platform. I am really happy to know that this week it is running on a production environment. Have you ever installed Linux on an i386 platform? if the answer is true, you must not be afraid of installing it on an iSeries system, the only difference is that you need to define the logical partition inside the OS/400 before the traditional anaconda installer starts.

If you want to try, read Linux on the IBM eserver iSeries Server: An Implementation Guide, or you can contact my employer PROMCA if you want our services ;-)

New PHP release

robert | 14 July, 2004 21:52

Long time ago ;-) I investigated about PHP and decided to invest some of my time to learn it. A few weeks later I decided to do other things because I did not liked the language.

When I was looking for a blog software (Free software), I found an infant named plog. I noticed that it was developed in PHP, but I liked it over many other blog implementations because it was written using good object oriented PHP, at that moment I noticed that PHP has grown a lot as a language since the first days I used it, so I decided to learn it, and now it is for real.

Yesterday, I was notified about the newest release of PHP, version 5.0.0. I found this release a huge improvement, it borrows a lot of features of Java. I think that any Java programmer could master PHP easily with only a few weeks of dedication. Read the improvements over the previous release on the article named Changes in PHP 5/Zend Engine II

Firefox buttons

robert | 12 July, 2004 21:53

I have added a few buttons in order to promote the usage of Mozilla Firefox. If you are looking for a modern and more secure browser than Internet Explorer, do not hesitate to install it. With Firefox you can browse the internet protected from malware and it can be used on many Windows releases, not only Windows XP like the planned IE enhancements in Service Pack 2
